SGD goes Korea

Heyya to all SGD readers,

We've been a little busy recently. Just back from China. Updates on this coming up soon.
In any case, here's an interview from Korea from Mr Big of Ghost of soul crew, credits to Chris for the link up and Sue-Ann for the interview and translations.

So... How long have you been dancing?
I’ve been dancing for 10 years in total, 6 years as an amateur, and 4 years professionally.

Why did you decide to start dancing?
When I thought of what I wanted to do with my life, I wanted to choose something that I was good at and something I enjoyed doing, that’s why I chose dance.

What is your favorite style of dance to watch?
From an audience point of view, I enjoy watching house, b-boying and locking because they are very fun styles to watch. Tap and swing dance as well.

5. Why did you chose wacking?
I started off as a hip hop dancer, and first came into contact with the wacking style when I went to Osaka in 2005 to learn dance. In 2006, together with the ‘Ghost of Soul’ crew, we studied and practiced the style.

6. Why do you like dancing so much?
I see dance as a form of communication, it’s like how people enjoy interacting with each other through having a good verbal conversation, I enjoy interacting with others through dance.

7. Why do you teach dancing?
It is a chance for me to pass on the knowledge I have to the younger generation of dancers, and I hope that through learning this style from me, they are able to incorporate this along with other styles they learn to come up with new styles of dance.

8. Who is your favorite dancer/inspiration?
My favourite dancers are my fellow crew members from Ghost of Soul, and I am inspired by Tyrone, Marty and Ducky, amongst many others.

9. What is the dance culture like in Korea?
I think compared to other countries, the dance scene in Korea developed a lot faster. The problem in Korea is that even though we have extremely talented dancers, the audience is still very immature and they are unable to appreciate the amazing dancers we have. Also, because people do not think that dance is an important profession, the older generation does not support their children becoming dancers as they won’t be able to earn a proper living by being a dancer. I think for the dance culture to improve, the general public should learn how to appreciate dance because we already have very good dancers whose talent is often under appreciated.

10. What is your philosophy on dancing?
Challenge and perseverance. Always challenge yourself, and keep working at getting better. Practice and work hard until you get where you wanna be, and then challenge yourself to new heights
